Engraving

Traditional engraving, sometimes called “drag or rotary engraving”, is the process of using a special tool that sits on the surface of the item being engraved, and is either dragged across the surface or spins at a high rate of speed to create the engraving. Although certainly an option, this type of engraving isn’t used as often as laser engraving, which provides a cleaner and more detailed result.

Custom Engraved plastic

Our custom engraved plastic is a very durable material. Engravable plastic consists of a core color and a surface color. When the surface color is engraved away, the core color shows through.  Some plastic can also be laser engraved.

Custom Engraved Metal

A rotary engraver is often used on metal items. It takes skill and precision to operate a rotary engraver. The correct settings must be used for each item. Trust us to engrave your metal item, we will put our years of experience to work for you.

Many of our name tags are rotary engraved. The most popular would be our USAF Elite Series name tags.

Artwork Specifications for Engraving

We prefer artwork to be in vector format. This includes .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .cdr (CorelDraw), .eps or .svg.

Gradients cannot be achieved using the rotary engraving process. If your artwork has any colors that gradually fade into another, we will not be able to use it for rotary engraving.  However, gradients can be achieved using laser engraving. View our laser engraving page for additional information.
